Eoghan O'Connell Named Club Captain

21 August 2020

Rochdale AFC are pleased to announce that Eoghan O’Connell has been named as our new Club Captain.

The 25-year-old takes over the armband following the departure of predecessor Ian Henderson.

Speaking on his decision to name the former Celtic man as his skipper, manager Brian Barry-Murphy said:

“Eoghan is someone who is an embodiment of everything that we believe we are as a group.

“I couldn’t think of anyone better to represent the Club and us on the pitch, because of his ability as a player and as a person.

“He represents everything that we are and is the perfect fit for us going forward.”

New captain O’Connell says he wants to repay the faith shown in him by his manager.

“It’s a huge honour for me,” said the Irishman.

“I’m delighted and I’m looking forward to getting going now. I don’t think it will change much to how I am on the pitch.

“Ever since I’ve come here, I’ve really enjoyed it, especially playing under Brian. It’s a nice thing for me and a nice step to show that he has the trust in me. Hopefully, I can now repay that.”

Congratulations, Eoghan!
