We'll Try To Be On the Front Foot - Barry-Murphy

20 September 2019

Brian Barry-Murphy wants his side to play on the front foot against Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Dale visit Highbury Stadium to face the Cod Army, who are unbeaten at home since February.

“Saturday will be an exceptionally difficult game at a venue which has proved very difficult for visiting teams,” said Barry-Murphy.

“But that’s stuff that we can’t control. We’re very much of the mindset that we’re going to go and try to be on the front foot, and try to create enough problems for Fleetwood to contend with.

“They’re a team that have evolved very quickly under Joey [Barton]. They have attacking players that are probably up there with the best in League One. They provide a goal threat that is similar, probably, to Peterborough’s.

“So, I think it’s imperative that we’re at the top of our game, but our lads are preparing in a very, very focused manner, like they do in every game.

“It’s a very exciting game for us, and one which we hope will bring a very large following, which we have done in previous seasons, and have provided some great backing to what have been some great performances.

“There’s a mutual respect between both Clubs. We’re obviously in a similar region, and whilst they probably have a more experienced squad, and more established players, we have a very young team.

“But it’s a team that don’t feel intimidated in going anywhere. Coupled with our experience and great leadership within the squad, we’re very ambitious and we aim to display our personality in every game.

“It’s a very exciting game for us and one that we’re attacking with relish.”

The Dale boss also reflected on Tuesday night’s draw against Lincoln, stating he was pleased with how his players bounced back from last Saturday’s defeat at Peterborough United.

“Last Saturday was a difficult day for us, no doubt. But the lads bounced back amazingly well, as they have done every time we’ve had a knock or something hasn’t gone our way.

“It’s been a trend of this group of players, that they’ve always bounced back, and Tuesday night was no different. Everything that we wanted, we displayed, in terms of our character and our personalities.”
