Community Preview | Accrington Stanley

9 October 2019

Take a look at what the Dale In The Community Sports Trust have going on at Saturday's match against Accrington Stanley at the Crown Oil Arena…

KICK IT OUT DAY

We are showcasing our annual contribution to Kick It Out by inviting the winners of a recent Mosque Tournament - organised by our community cohesion officer, Syed Ali. Players from both teams will be warming up with Kick It Out T-shirts on, plus we will be parading a banner before the match and at half time.

At Rochdale AFC, we are continuously putting on activities to reduce discrimination through cohesive programmes and initiatives delivered in the local community.

MASCOT

Finnley Wilkinson, aged 8 years goes to Tonnacliffe Primary School. He plays football for Whitworth Valley under 9’s and Springfield Park Monsoon. Finnley is a Rochdale season ticket holder, with his favourite players being Ollie Rathbone and Luke Matheson.

BIRTHDAY TREAT

It will be Ethan Horrock’s 9th birthday on Saturday and he’s celebrating with us and his friends for the match. He goes to Shawclough Community Primary School, where he’s in year 4. Ethan plays for Shawclough FC Under 9’s as a defender/ central midfield. His favourite Rochdale player is Luke Matheson after his brilliant goal at Old Trafford.

HALF-TIME CHALLENGE MATCH

We welcome Pennine Reds and Littleborough Yellows under-8’s. They were scheduled to have been playing against each other on the day of the original Ipswich Town home game but was moved due to the postponement.

Pennine Reds were formed 18 months ago by Neil Mort and Anthony Britland, developing their skills and learning of the game in a fun environment. Following a slow start to last season, the team went on an impressive cup run, ultimately capturing the North Bury league Green Cup in a pulsating final. This season they have shown excellent form by winning their first four matches.

Littleborough Yellows started their football journey at LJFC Saturday morning soccer school in 2017. After which, two under-7’s teams where formed with the Yellows being coached by Jordan Shaw & Rob Pickering. 16 months later, the players have become good friends as well as teammates - showing much improvement and knowledge of the game. The 2018/19 season was steady which ended with 11 wins, 10 losses & 3 drawn games, but this season has started brightly after winning all 4 matches.

Healey and Caldershaw Primary Schools played on the pitch at half-time during the home match against Wycombe Wanderers, and they had a great time.

STOPTOBER- NO SMOKING DAY AT CROWN OIL ARENA

We had a very successful open day for the last Sky Bet League One match against Wycombe Wanderers, campaigning for the beginning of ‘Stoptober’. Members of Rochdale Council, plus “Bertie the Butt” were promoting the ‘Stoptober’ campaign through activates around the Crown Oil Arena.
