Players Return For Pre-Season On Thursday

26 June 2019

The players will return for pre-season training this Thursday, as preparations continue ahead of the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The squad will be put through their paces on home soil before heading out to Portugal on July 4th for a week-long training camp in the Algarve.

Manager Brian Barry-Murphy told us what’s in store for the players.

“It’ll be a continuation of what they’ve been doing over the close season.

“All different ages groups have been working at different levels, but I think everyone is coming back in a state of readiness to prepare properly for what will be an intense pre-season, but also one that we’re sure to enjoy.

“The first couple of days are about testing the players and seeing where they are at physically. We have detailed plans that have been drawn up by Kevin [Gibbins] and the rest of the staff to get them to where they need to be as quickly as possible without putting any pressure on the players and rushing them.

“We’re very conscious of that fact that it’s going to be a long season and we’re looking forward to being strong at all stages of the season and progressing right through it.

“We finished the season extremely well and physically our performance data was as high as any club in League One towards the end of last season. That gave me great satisfaction and it proves that the players are capable of producing elite physical performances. We’re looking to enhance that and make them stronger as we progress.”
