Joe Dunne scored the only goal of the game as the Youth Team beat Droylsden’s first-team 1-0 on Saturday.
The left-back scored midway through the second-half to give Dale back-to-back pre-season wins.
The home side created the first chance of the game, when a whipped free-kick from the left was headed over at the back post, but it was Dale who created the majority of chances afterwards.
Joe Wright fired over the bar after he had jinked his way past a couple of defenders in the area, before Morgan Moreland fired narrowly wide of the far post from the edge of the area.
Musambya Kisimba headed over from close range after Wright’s superb cross from the right, before Wright then saw a one-on-one well saved after good work from Moreland.
Dale’s goal came after the break, when Dunne headed into the path of Moreland, who returned the favour for Dunne to slide home from a tight angle inside the area.
The hosts piled the pressure on late, but Dale defended well, with goalkeeper Ben Chalton making a strong save down low to deny their final effort of the game.
