Manager Keith Hill is hopeful of recruiting more players before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday 31st January and the Dale boss says he needs reinforcements for the final 16 games of the season.
“The position we’re in is precarious – our League One status is threatened,” said Hill.
“We need more players. I need more reinforcements to make us better for the last 16 games of the season.
“It’s going to be difficult but I think the players that we’ve got in at this moment in time, I’m really pleased with them.
“I just need, probably, three more similar characters to see us through the remainder of the season. If not, we just deal with it.
“I do want a left-back. No disrespect to Ryan Delaney, who I thought was excellent for 75 minutes [against Barnsley], but I do need a left-back. And we would like another striker with some old-fashioned speed.
“I have to go with good characters and good personalities, more than talented football players. That will hopefully give us the results that we need in the last 16 games of the season to secure our League One status because it’s going to be a difficult call.”
Whist Hill is pleased with the players he has at this moment in time, he explained it has been a difficult window for recruiting.
“It’s been a difficult window. With respect to bringing players in, we’re in a queue system.
“Say, for example, if you phone Sky up and they say you’re in a queue system, it’ll be 30 minutes until we accept your call!
“We’re probably 21st in line for recruiting players in League One. Hopefully I can get players in before Thursday.
“If not, we’ll run with the players that we’ve got and the Youth Team because we’ve got a good structure for the future and we might have to use them right here, right now.”
