Community Preview | Fleetwood Town (H)

23 December 2019

Take a look at what the Dale In The Community Sports Trust have going on at Thursday's match against Fleetwood Town at the Crown Oil Arena…

MASCOTS

HENRY ALDEN

Henry has just recently celebrated his fifth birthday and he attends St Vincents Primary School, Norden.

He is a big Rochdale fan with his favourite player being Ollie Rathbone.

Henry is practicing to be a future Rochdale star, attending football practice at Diddykicks in Heywood.

He's also a keen swimmer and has recently got his 10m swimming badge.

OLLIE COSTELLO

Ollie is seven years old, lives in Castleton and attends Thornham St. Johns Primary School, Middleton.

Ollie often comes to Spotland Road to support the Dale, but sometimes dad takes him to watch Manchester United or City.

He has trained at the Soccer Factory, Liverpool Academy and plays left wing for Middleton Colts FC Under 7’s.

His favourite Dale players are Ian Henderson, Luke Matheson and Calvin Andrew plus Lionel Messi and Marcus Rashford.

YOU Vs TRAIN

Jim McNulty again showed his support for the EFL Trust’s You Vs Train campaign recently when he visited St John’s RC Primary School in the centre of Rochdale to speak to Year 6 students about the dangers of the railway network to young people.

St John’s Primary is located a stone’s throw from Rochdale Railway Station and also has a Metrolink line run right outside its premises.

The EFL Trust's partnership with Network Rail is helping to tackle the increasing number of people risking their lives on the railway.

Jim helped to launch the Club’s support of the campaign back in August, with the Community Sports Trust holding workshops across the community to raise awareness of the campaign.

New figures reveal over 250 incidents a week have been recorded by people taking risks on the railway, taking short cuts, capturing photos and even ‘train surfing’, sometimes with tragic consequences, with young people (under-18s) making up one of the largest categories, responsible for a third of all cases.

DALE’S SILVER 60s

Whilst the lads continue their escapades with walking football sessions at Wardle Academy and Rochdale Leisure Centre, the girls have been on several excursions to celebrate Christmas with the trip down to the Manchester Markets followed by the annual Sheraton Lunch.

Siobhan took the girls down to Manchester to experience the Christmas spirit and bumped into "In for a Penny In for a Pound" host Stephen Mulhern filming for the Christmas Special so hopefully they got themselves on the show.

The funding for this excellent programme has been acquired from Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale CCG so many thanks for the gesture that is a massive part of the Community Sports Trust activities and one that has seen senior citizens coming together from all parts of Rochdale enjoying mixing in an enjoyable setting going some way to combatting social isolation.

HALF TIME CHALLENGE MATCH

Pennine Blacks Under 10’s and Walshaw All Stars Under 10’s teams provided the entertainment when we played Portsmouth back in November enjoying the match day experience at the Crown Oil Arena.

I’m sure they will all had a brilliant day out and one to remember for a long time.
