The Youth Team begin their 2019/20 EFL Youth Alliance League North West campaign with a trip to Preston North End on Saturday.
Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Chris Brown says the opening game can’t come quick enough!
“We’re looking forward to it, 100%,” said Brown.
“We’ve had a good five or six weeks of hard work. It was a slow start – the first years have had to bed themselves in to day-to-day training.
“Over the last few weeks we’ve been improving and working extra hard in training. We’re going into the season on a positive note, so we’re looking forward to getting going and playing games.
“We played Preston a few weeks ago in pre-season and we were reasonably pleased with the first-half. However, the second-half we didn’t play well and were beaten 4-1.
“Results-wise and performance-wise over the last few weeks, since that result, the lads should be going into the game on a positive note.
“They’ll be wanting to put in a positive performance against them and show them that we have improved as a team.
“They’re [Preston] a strong team physically and have some good technical players, so it will be a really good test for us and one that we’re really looking forward to. Saturday can’t come quick enough!”
The game will be played at UCLan Sports Arena, Tom Benson Way, Cottam, Preston, PR2 1SG.
Kick-off is at 10.30am and admission is free.
