We can reveal that there will be a new look Desmond the Dragon for the 2019/20 season and beyond!
Dale’s mischievous mascot will return to his infamous green colour, in a move away from his current grey shade.
He’s also set to have a new home on matchdays – Desmond’s Den – inside the Smith Metals Family Stand. Junior fans can meet our friendly dragon while taking part in free workshops and interactive activities!
It’s all part the Club’s continued work to improve our family friendly matchday experience.
“We are delighted to be re-introducing a green Desmond the Dragon,” said Chief Executive David Bottomley.
“Desmond is a big part of the matchday experience for our young supporters, as well as a key figure for the work we do in the community, and we want him to have a strong identity, one where he is instantly recognisable. We believe this move will help that.
“The grey mascot was introduced a number of years ago, but there has often been confusion around what he actually is, with him being referred to as a donkey, a wolf and even a bat on occasions!
“But despite the colour change, he’ll still be the fun, friendly Desmond the Dragon that we all know.”
