Manager Keith Hill reflects on Dale’s 1-0 win over Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena…
“I’m delighted for the players. The work they put in hasn’t been rewarded this season, so I’m really pleased,” said the Gaffer in his post-match interview.
“More importantly, I’m pleased with the way we’ve defended the centre of the pitch. Some of defending in the wide areas of the pitch, especially in the first half, wasn’t great, but we defended crosses really well today. They had a few speculative errors from distance.
“No two halves are the same, and we scored a good goal. I think Coventry switched off at the set-play, but we started the second half really well and we got our just rewards. I thought we could have scored a couple more in the second half with the opportunities that presented themselves on the counter-attack – there were a few marginal offsides that went against us. We had the ball in the back of the net twice and they were adjudged to be offside and I’m sure one of them wasn’t.
“Generally, I’m happy with the shape and I’m happy with the attitude and the way the players defended. Now we’ve got to make sure we marry it up with the type of football we played against Peterborough, for example. If we’re as good defensively as we were today and we combine it with the type of play that we saw against Peterborough, then we’ll be okay.”
