The Youth Team progressed to the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup with a 2-0 win over Fleetwood Town.
Second-half goals from Fabio Tavares and Florian Yonsian sealed Dale’s passage into the last four of the competition.
In a quiet first-half, Lewis Bradley fired into the arms of the Fleetwood stopper with Dale’s best chance.
The game opened up after the break and Florent Hoti struck the foot of the post when he latched on to Tavares’ pull-back.
Tavares himself opened the scoring ten minutes into the second period. From Joe Dunne’s square ball, both Yonsian and Bradley saw efforts blocked, but Tavares was on hand to finish on the turn from close range.
Dale stopper Morgan Piper kept his side in front with a fine save to his left to deny a Fleetwood free-kick which was destined for the top corner.
Tavares wasted a good opportunity to double the lead and his tally when his attempted chip over the goalkeeper one-on-one was well held, but Dale made sure of the win on the stroke of full-time.
Luke Matheson’s through ball released Toby Phillips, who drove forward before squaring for Yonsian to turn home from the edge of the six-yard box.
Dale now face Wigan Athletic in the semi-final. A date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course.
