As part of Dale’s Community Cohesion initiative, teams from Rochdale and Oldham Athletic faced each other in a friendly match on Saturday.
Syed Ali, Dale’s Community Cohesion Officer, and his counterpart at Oldham, Abul Khayr, led the teams in a match played at the Soccer Factory in Rochdale.
The teams then watched Dale’s Sky Bet League One match against Luton Town at the Crown Oil Arena in the afternoon.
The initiative has been funded by the EFL Trust innovation fund, which has allowed the two clubs to appoint a dedicated Community Cohesion Officer.
Syed has been in the role since September. His aim is to engage adults, young people and children amongst the BAME community, along with other community groups, in football and in particular Rochdale AFC.
