Wednesday saw the launch of Dale’s Silver 60s, a brand new Dale In The Community Trust activity group.
The weekly group, targeting senior citizens in the Rochdale borough, is based at Dale’s Crown Oil Arena, and includes a variety of activities.
These include walking football/netball, mat bowls, computer activities, bingo, cards, gentle gym exercises, and much more!
Over 20 people attended the group, and they offered their thoughts on it as well as encouraging more attendees!
BERYL PICKLE
“I saw leaflets for the event at a coffee club. Hopefully more people will come next week. I’ve had a great time! I’ve loved meeting new people, and learning all about Facebook and online banking.”
MARGARET SCHOFIELD
“I heard about it through a friend at Castleton library. I’ve had a great day playing walking football/netball and dominoes.
“It’s absolutely brilliant – I’ve had such a good laugh. I’ve had my two knees replaced so I can’t run but I can walk – I certainly didn’t think I’d ever be playing football/netball again, so to have the opportunity to take part has been great.
“I came with one friend but I’ve met lots of new people today who have been most welcoming and I’ll definitely be back!”
JEAN LINGARD
“The community staff are very helpful and friendly. When I saw the event advertised, I thought it was great to see the club doing something, so why not back it and give it a go!
“When you get older, you can often become invisible, but this gives us something to ourselves at and to get involved in. It has been great to meet other people – I hope even more people come next week.”
MAUREEN ASTLEY
“I’ve had that much of a good time, I’m dancing out of here with a smile on my face!
“I met some very lovely ladies at a coffee morning in Norden and this is the reason I came. It’s been really enjoyable trying out new activities and getting myself going. “
BOB MORRISEY
“I’m happily worn out after that! I’ve had really good time and made new friends.
“It’s an initiative that is all encompassing - we were all made to feel very welcome without any pressure. Everyone was made to feel at home.
“It was fully inclusive, both male and female. Lots of smiling faces!”
KEITH HICKS (Head of Dale In The Community Sports Trust)
“I’m really, really pleased with the turnout on the first day. When you launch an initiative such as this, you’re never sure how many people will get involved, but I’m pleased to see it so well attended. Long may it continue!
“There was a lot of socialising going on and everyone was getting involved in one of the activities. It was brilliant to see so many people have a great time and making new friends.
“We are really grateful for the funding provided by CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) – it has allowed us to make this happen.”
GET INVOLVED
The group will take place every Wednesday between 1pm-4pm, and free transport will be made available by the club to those wishing to attend.
