Youth Team Report | Wrexham 1-2 Dale

19 March 2018

Two first-half goals secured all three points for the Youth Team in a 2-1 win over Wrexham on Saturday.

Florent Hoti opened the scoring after just four minutes, before Fabio Tavares doubled the lead two minutes before the break.

Cameron McGregor scored a stunning consolation goal for the hosts, but Dale had already done enough to claim victory.

The deadlock was broken early doors when Dan Adshead found Tavares down the right side, and his cross made its way to the back post, where Hoti’s touch and left-foot shot beat goalkeeper Owen Kirkham.

Neil Kuemo tested Kirkham on a couple of occasions as Dale dominated the first-half, whilst Harrison Hopper flicked a header wide of the far post from Nathaniel Appiah’s cross.

Dale did double the lead just two minutes before the break through Tavares. Kuemo’s cross from the left was met by Tavares, who stole in front of the goalkeeper to nod home from six yards.

Keith Kearney and Florian Yonsian replaced Appiah and Hopper after the break, and Dale continued to push on as Kuemo forced Kirkham into a tip over the bar at the near post.

James Neild turned a corner over the crossbar, and Aaron Morley drove wide on a follow up from Adshead’s blocked effort.

The hosts made it an interesting stoppage time when McGregor’s spectacular effort from distance dipped under the crossbar, but Dale weren’t in danger, sealing their seventh consecutive win in all competitions.
