Hill Praises Hurst & Shrewsbury

29 March 2018

Keith Hill says Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst and assistant Chris Doig should be lauded for their achievements so far this season.

He has labelled the pair as his management team of the season, as Dale prepare to face the League One leaders on Good Friday.

“I’m really pleased for them, on any other day except Good Friday!

“They’re a group of honest players coming together, there’s nobody doubting it in there, and the manager himself and assistant, they should be lauded.

“They’re the management team of the season for me – not just in League One, but in all the leagues. When you look at overachieving from the Premier League down, themselves and Accrington Stanley are up there for me.

“Paul Hurst should be getting mentioned for every top job. He reminds me very much of Eddie Howe. I think he’s tremendous and he’s English – he’s got to be one of the next names to be linked with a high-end Championship club, or Premier League club. Why not take the risk on somebody who’s so successful? It’s a crying shame for me that they get overlooked, managers like himself.”

Dale were beaten 3-2 by Shrewsbury earlier in the season, although Hill felt his side deserved more that day.

Now, he wants his side to replicate Shrewsbury’s form over the final ten games of the season.

“It was an early season game. They were gaining momentum, we were trying to get results.

“We were all-in and we got beat 3-2. It could have been any scoreline.

“We were the first team to score goals against them and we had numerous other opportunities. The manner in which we conceded the goals was poor.

“When we’ve scored two or more we’ve tended to make more mistakes than the opponent and it’s cost us dearly this season, but we’re still in a position where can upset the odds against Shrewsbury or against any team, to be perfectly honest, in the next ten games that we play, because we can be that good of a side and we can be the Shrewsbury of this division over the next ten games.”
