Keith Hill On Last 15 Games

9 March 2018

Manager Keith Hill has told iFollow what he’s looking for the players to do between now and the end of the season.

Dale have up to five games in hand on some teams in the league and still have 15 matches left to play during the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign.

“We’ve got try and achieve back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back victories, and that’s the position we’ve put ourselves in,” said Hill.

“We’ve dug ourselves into a big hole and now we’ve got to start digging ourselves out of it. We’ve got to put pressure on the teams above us, not the teams in the relegation zone, but the ones that are above the relegation zone, and we can only do that by picking points.

“The midweek games are going to be really important to our challenges. If we pick up three points in midweek and don’t lose too many points on Saturdays, then it will put us in a good opportunity going into the last 10 games of the season.

“I want to be going into those last 10 games no more than five points behind. Although if we are more than five points behind it will still be retrievable, but in an ideal world, we’ll be no more than five points cut adrift, and that’s what’s important from my perspective.

“We’ve still got a fair amount of games to play, whereas some other teams will be going into their last nine after this weekend. There are teams that will go into bad form during these games - we’ve seen it so many times before where midtable teams fall into the relegation zone during the last 10 games of the season.

“We’ve got to be aware of that but ultimately where we are in the table is our responsibility, mine and the players included. On Tuesday night at Walsall, the players took responsibility and there was also a little bit of luck in it. It was marginal up to a point, but we had the penalty save and Josh also made one or two good saves before that. We had one or two opportunities in the first half that we should have converted, but generally, I thought we got the rub of the green, whereas in previous performances, we haven’t.”
