Keith Hill Has A Selection Headache For Gillingham

12 January 2018

Manager Keith Hill has told iFollow that he has a selection headache for all the wrong reasons, ahead of Saturday’s League One fixture against Gillingham.

Injury and illness has hit the squad this week and has left Hill short on numbers for the game at the Priestfield Stadium.

“We’ve had a difficult week, from Doncaster onwards,” said Hill.

“We’ve had injuries and illness - reoccurring injuries and long-term injuries are sprouting up - although I can’t go into too much detail.

“It just seems that everything is hitting the wall at this moment in time and we can’t do anything about it. It has come just out of nowhere. We played the game at Doncaster and then within the course of the week there’s all sorts of things happening. This is where my job is more than just being a manager.

“Looking at the Doncaster game, we had three injuries from that match running into the Lincoln game, which is why Brian Barry Murphy was on the bench, and some of the players have been injured as a result of Tuesday’s game against Lincoln, so I think Kevin Gibbins might be on the bench this weekend!

“But we’re still fighting and we’re determined to put a team out against Gillingham on Saturday. It’s at times like that these that everyone pulls together.

“We had a great training session yesterday [Thursday]. It was superb and there was a good appetite from the players. It is what it is, and we’ve just got to go and fight and play. I’ve got a little bit of cold myself, but I’m enjoying it. I’ve got a plan and I’ve always got a plan that’s a continual theme, and we’re planning on going to Gillingham be successful.”
