Manager Keith Hill believes the extension of Josh Lillis’ contract brings stability to the squad.
The long-serving goalkeeper put pen to paper on a deal until 2020 on Tuesday.
“Josh Lillis signing an extension this week is superb and it’s stability,” Hill told iFollow.
“He’s still got a burning ambition to be successful for this football club. He hasn’t signed so he can meander and while away his footballing years, there’s an ambition from him. That’s got to be supported by stability and the likes of Josh signing creates a nucleus for us to work with this season and beyond, and that’s what makes us a little bit different from other clubs. There’s a short-term plan but there’s also long-term method, which has been introduced by me and supported by the Board of Directors.
“Josh staying at the club will support the ambition of the young players coming in and he’ll be a teacher as well, so it’s a great bit of business.
“Like Josh said, the grass isn’t always greener. The money is, there’s no question about that, but it’s a good place to work here, and Josh will tell you that.”
