Squad Rotation Important For Season Run-In

21 February 2018

Manager Keith Hill has spoken about the importance of squad rotation, ahead of Wednesday night’s League One fixture v MK Dons…

Due to Rochdale’s brilliant FA Cup run and three postponed games due to the weather, Dale now have up to six games in hand on some teams in the division and are now faced with a Saturday/ Tuesday scenario between now and the end of the season.

“Over the 18 games [we’ll utilise the squad]", said Hill.

“Everybody concerned with the football club has got to realise that we’ll be playing two or three times a week between now and the end of the season so I will have to play different teams.

“It’ll be very difficult for a starting eleven to continue playing week in/ week out when we’re up to three games a week and we’ve got travelling etc. It’s going to be difficult so we will rely on those players.

“The players have to be ready, because you can be called upon at any time. Even as we saw at Bristol Rovers – you can be called upon in a matter of minutes before team sheets go in, after Calvin Andrew had to pull out at such short notice.

“It’s important that the players are mentally, physically and football conditioned, because you can be called upon at any time.”
