Calvin Andrew Named PFA Community Champion

9 April 2018

Calvin Andrew has been named as the 2017/18 PFA Community Champion.

He was presented with the award on the Crown Oil Arena pitch before Saturday's game against Portsmouth.

The award recognises Andrew's contribution to the community, including visits to local schools, events held at the Soccer Factory, amongst many more.

Speaking after the match, Andrew spoke about the importance of footballers being in touch with the community.

“It’s a huge honour for me to get such a prestigious award,” said Andrew. “I got it last season as well, and I think as footballers we’re a bit naïve to forget that we are a big part of the community at our clubs, and we’ve got an obligation to kids and to fans.

“I think we’ve all been there at one stage. I always remember being in school when Ian Wright came one time.

“It was an amazing feeling – I was in awe of him! You really pay attention to the things he said, and you carry those with you as you grow up.

“So it’s very important that we are role models and that we do our bit.”

Congratulations, Calvin!
