Joe Renner’s goal gave the Youth Team a 1-0 victory over Carlisle United on Saturday. He spoke to iFollow after the game...
“It turned out to be a scrappy game in the end, but I thought we dominated. Sometimes you win off a set piece and that’s all that matters. I always fancy myself in the air against anyone.
He has played the majority of his Youth Team matches at centre-back, but was in the left back role on Saturday.
“I loved it. I’ve played right back before, but Browny wanted to test myself at left back. I thought I played well and I’m happy I took on the challenge.”
Renner Captained the side against Carlisle, and scored the only goal of the game, heading in Aaron Morley’s set piece.
“I always try to lead whether I have the Captaincy or not, but it is always a pleasure to Captain the side and lead the boys out.
“When Aaron plays I always fancy myself [to score], because he’s got a great delivery and hopefully he keeps doing it so I can get myself some more goals from set pieces!”
