Joe Rafferty spoke to iFollow after his Man of the Match performance in Dale’s convincing 3-0 win over Gillingham...
Rafferty grabbed Dale’s second goal of the game, nodding home after the Gills goalkeeper spilled Steven Davies’ free-kick.
It was the 23-year-old's first goal of the 2017-18 campaign and his fourth of his Rochdale career.
He commented: “I’m always looking for goals, but unfortunately they don’t always come!
“I can’t remember too much about the goal today, I just remember heading it in. It happened too fast - I didn’t really have time to think about it.
“I looked over at my nephew during the celebrations. He comes to the games, so I just gave him a little wave."
Whilst Rafferty was pleased with his contribution going forward, he was also delighted to see the side keep a clean sheet.
“The Gaffer wants us to be more solid, both defensively and offensively, so to get a clean sheet and three goals is pleasing.
“We’re always going out there to try and win, so it’s just as important to keep a clean sheet. We had another one during the week against Bury, but we’ve been leaking more goals than what we should so far this season. We know what we need to do and we just need take that into games.”
