Mark Kitching’s wonder goal in Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers was his first in professional football.
He spoke to iFollow about his goal and the celebrations after Tuesday’s stunning comeback…
“It was mad,” said Kitching.
“I’ve scored goals at youth level, but I’ve never scored a goal in a professional game where it meant so much for us.
“It was a massive goal and helped us win the game. It was an unbelievable feeling and one I’ll never forget.
“Jimmy’s [McNulty] done well to get past the striker and play the ball up to Davo [Steven Davies]. I know he’s got a good touch so as long as I’m around him I can get on any knock downs.
“It’s come down from the sky and I’ve thought ‘why not?’. Luckily for me it’s gone in the top corner, so I was buzzing.”
Kitching’s 92nd minute goal looked to have rescued a point for Dale, but there was more to come two minutes later as Davies bagged a dramatic winner.
“When he scored it was mad. Everyone was doing knee slides and celebrating with the fans.
“It was a massive result so it was good to celebrate with the fans who came out to support us in the wind and rain, and send them home happy.
“It’s always massive to get the first win of the season, so for it come in such a dramatic way was good.”
