Checkatrade Trophy Rewind

Here's a reminder of how Dale fared in last season's Checkatrade Trophy competition...

Last season, Rochdale secured points from all three of their group stage Checkatrade Trophy fixtures.  

Dale started the new-look competition with a home game against Sunderland’s U23s. After the match ended 1-1, Keith Hill’s side went on to win the penalty shoot-out and secure two points from their opening game.

Notts County were the visitors to the Crown Oil Arena a month later and Dale recorded a 2-1 win over the Magpies to claim all three points.

A trip to Hartlepool United followed in the November, and Matty Gilliam scored on his professional debut as Dale ran out 2-1 winners at Victoria Park on an emotional night for all concerned with the club. Manager Keith Hill had named Joshua McCormack, Dale’s new number 55, on the bench for the fixture.

Chesterfield came calling a month later for the first knock-out tie of the competition, and ended Dale’s hopes of a trip to Wembley with a 2-0 victory.
