Youth Team Report: Wigan Athletic 2-0 Dale

2 October 2017

The Youth Team fell to a 2-0 defeat against Wigan Athletic at Christopher Park on Saturday.

Two goals from Mwiya Malumo condemned Chris Brown’s side to defeat, despite creating a number of chances which weren’t taken.

Neil Kuemo struck just wide of the near post from a promising position with Dale’s first attempt, but the hosts took the lead in the 13th minute through Malumo.

Divin Baningme’s shot inside the area was well saved by Brad Wade, but Malumo tapped in the rebound.

A brilliant interchange of passing between Daniel Adshead, Florent Hoti and Harrison Hopper led to Adshead placing a shot inches wide of the far post.

Another good passing move led to Kuemo crossing for Fabio Tavares, who turned the ball wide from a central position.

Dale were made to pay for their missed chances straight after the break, when Wigan doubled their lead. A cross from the right was turned in at the near post by Malumo for his second of the game.

Tavares had a great chance to claw Dale back into the game, when Hopper turned Luke Matherson’s cross forward. The ball fell to the striker, who poked an effort past the goalkeeper but just wide of the upright.

Lewis Bradley had an effort deflected over, whilst Kuemo also fired over the crossbar after being played in down the left, as Dale were made to rue missed chances.
