Youth Team Report: Dale 4-1 Bury

24 October 2017

The Youth Team ran out 4-1 winners over local rivals Bury in the EFL Youth Alliance League on Tuesday.

Isaac Ward’s goal in first-half injury time put Dale ahead, before Aaron Morley and Neil Kuemo put Dale in full control.

The visitors pulled a goal back, but Kuemo restored the three-goal cushion and rounded off the scoring late on.

PDP Lead Coach Chris Brown named an unchanged starting line-up from the weekend’s 5-2 win over Accrington Stanley, but Brad Wade ensure Dale didn’t trail early on as he made a good save low to his right from an effort just inside the area.

Lewis Bradley had a low drive spilt by the Bury goalkeeper, shortly before Wade produced another save to his right, this time from close range.

The match looked set to be goalless heading into the break, but Dale pulled ahead in added time. Morley’s corner evaded those in the middle and was pounced on by Ward, who finished nicely into the roof of the net at the back post.

The beginning of the second half was an even affair. Kuemo tested the substitute Bury goalkeeper from distance, before Ward had to the ball in the back of the net again, only to be denied by the referee’s whistle for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Dale’s second came from the penalty spot, when Fabio Tavares was upended in the area. Morley stepped up, and although the goalkeeper guessed the right way, he was beaten by the power on the strike.

Kuemo all but sealed the victory with 12 minutes remaining. Tavares chased down a through ball and blocked the clearance from the Bury stopper, which fell kindly for Kuemo, who passed the ball into the empty net from outside the area.

Wade made a superb save from a strike from distance which looked set for the top corner, only for the Dale goalkeeper to tip the ball over the crossbar.

However, there was nothing he could do when a throw-in made its way into the area, and a turn and shot from a Bury forward found the far corner.

Kuemo had time for his second and Dale fourth in stoppage time though. He drove at the Bury defence before firing goalwards. His shot took a slight deflection and flew over the goalkeeper, finding the back of the net to round off a convincing victory for the Youth Team.
