Joe Rafferty went back to his former high school this week to meet the Year 7 football team.
He watched the Maricourt Catholic High School side take on Maghull High in the Sefton Cup.
Joe gave the youngsters a few pointers at half time before posing with the team and goal scorers for photographs after the game, which Maricourt won 9-0.
Head of Boys’ PE, Andy Marshall, said: “I am delighted that Joe has taken time out his busy schedule to give something back to grassroots football. It is vital that past pupils like Joe are able to inspire our current talented footballers to follow in his footsteps into professional football.
“As part of Joe’s formal links with Maricourt, the school will be running a trip to watch a Rochdale AFC game at the Crown Oil Arena to cheer on Joe and his Dale team mates.”
