M.J. Williams On Clean Sheets & Rotherham

6 October 2017

M.J. Williams spoke to iFollow ahead of Dale’s match against Rotherham United at the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday…

Dale have kept five consecutive clean sheets and have now lost just once in seven outings, and Williams believe the defence has been key to the recent run of results.

“We’ve kept a few clean sheets and got some wins on the table, which was needed. We’ve got all the team back now, more or less, so we’re looking to carry on the form we’re in and get the win tomorrow.

“We’ve concentrated on keeping it a bit tighter, and not being as open as we were. The back four – whoever it is that’s been playing – has been brilliant.”

The on-loan Liverpool man also believes the spirit within the group has been a big factor in the side’s recent results.

“It’s always been close [the team spirit], but I think in recent weeks we’ve become even closer. When results weren’t going our way, we stuck together and it’s showing on the pitch.

“The lads are great here, we all stick together. Even if a few of us have bad games we won’t get on each other’s backs, we all stay positive.

“Looking around the changing rooms we’ve got some really good players, and we believe we can go out and win any game.”

Free-scoring Rotherham are the visitors to the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday, but Williams is confident Dale are a match for anyone.

“They were in the Championship last season. They’ve picked up the results, they’ve been winning and scoring goals.

“It will be a really tough test for us, because they’ll be coming here for the three points.

“We believe that we can beat anyone, especially at home. We really do put teams under pressure and it’s the same tomorrow, so we’ll be going out to try and win the game."
