Flashback: Rochdale 3-2 Northampton Town

16 October 2017

Ahead of Tuesday night’s League One fixture v Northampton Town, we take a look back at a previous meeting between the two sides at the Crown Oil Arena…

On Tuesday 22nd October 2013, Dale produced a late comeback against the Cobblers to move two points clear at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table, thanks to a 3-2 victory.

The visitors opened the scoring just two minutes into the game through a wonderful Luke Norris strike, but Keith Hill’s side drew level shortly before the half hour when Ian Henderson fired across goal and into the bottom corner of the net.

Stuart Dallas regained the lead for the Cobblers thirteen minutes later, but in a spirited fashion, Rochdale struck twice in the late stages of the game to seal the win.

Dale were awarded a free-kick around 20 yards from goal in the 88th minute and Michael Rose made no mistake in sending a left footed strike round the wall and in at the post.

In stoppage time, George Donnelly struck from the edge of the area beyond goalkeeper Matt Duke, who got a hand to the effort, but couldn’t prevent the ball from travelling over the line.

DALE XI: Lillis, Rafferty, Lancashire, O’Connell, Rose, Lund, Dicker, Henry, Vincenti, Cummins, Henderson. Subs: Thomson, Bennett, Eastham, Tutte, Allen, Donnelly, Bunney.
