Manager Keith Hill reacts to Dale’s defeat at The Valley…
“We deserved a point, without a question,” said Hill.
"Performances come from commitment, and probably showing more enthusiasm and endeavour. Commitment is a big word but I think the players have shown that today, and that’s what gives me great encouragement. We know when we get the type of the performance and commitment that I expect.
“I think I’ve been waiting and expecting performances, but you have to make big decisions sometimes, and I’ve been too loyal to too many players. I hope that is the response with respect to performance levels, but we’re in a results business and you could argue that in the first-half, the score line flattered the opposition, because we started superbly well.
“I know where we are in the league without looking at it because of the results we’ve had, but it doesn’t make me any less enthusiastic and ambitious for this football club. We know where we should finish, but we’ve superseded that every season we’ve been in League One by finishing in the top ten. At this moment in time we’re in the bottom three and it could get tougher, but we’ve got enough games to turn it around and that’s what our endeavours are going to do, because we deserved more today.”
He continued: “I’ve said to the players that they’ll be forgiven for mistakes as long as they’re 100-percent committed. I don’t think we’ve had the commitment, if I’m being honest, but we’ve had it tonight. We’ve made mistakes but mistakes will get better. I’ll support players who make mistakes if they’re committed towards me and the cause for Rochdale Football Club. Mistakes will happen, but as a consequence of those mistakes we’ve lost the game tonight.
“The players have got to be brave, because if it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger. I know how to survive and I know how to fight, and I expect the players to do that and represent me. They have done that tonight and that’s why they’re so deflated, because we should have got more from the game.”
