Calvin Andrew has spoken highly of Academy graduate Matty Gillam, who scored his first senior league goal on Tuesday night at Charlton, in what was his first league start for the club.
The experienced Andrew told iFollow that he has been impressed with the young forward’s attitude.
“Matty is a good friend of mine. I get on really well with him, so I was really happy that he got his first league goal and start. He deserved it because he has worked so hard.
"In this day and age with kids of his age in football, it’s quite rare to see that type of head down and just get on with it mentality and attitude.
“For someone like me to see him day in and day out in training, and the things he’s gone through, it’s brilliant to see him get that start and goal, and now he can push on and do some more.”
