Manager Keith Hill has revealed that Academy midfielder Daniel Adshead will join the first team on their pre-season trip to Tenerife.
The 15-year-old, who doesn’t turn 16 until September, has been in the Gaffer’s plans for some time but missed out on the opportunity to feature professionally last season due legislation around his age.
Still a year away from starting his scholarship, the youngster has already made a big impression.
“Mentally, Dan has got the timing of the game. Nothing really phases him,” said Hill.
“He’s very creative and he’s got unbelievable no-touch turns. His passing ability is on the money and it’s a just a question of him training and playing against better opposition, because I believe his natural skills are exceptional.”
And Hill says that Adshead is likely to feature in some of the first team’s pre-season friendly fixtures.
“It’s my intention for him to be involved in the pre-season fixtures, or as many as we can, leading into the start of the season.
“I have to allow him to catch-up quickly to the speed of playing and training with professional players, and playing against opposition teams. I have to see if he can do it and I have to allow him to make mistakes because he will make a lot mistakes.
“I know that Dan is going to be a class player, regardless of the performances he might have in pre-season. He’s getting to know the man’s age group when he’s 15, which is special for him.”
