A delighted Callum Camps was “buzzing” after signing an extension to his contract on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old, who has been at Dale since he was 12, signed a deal until 2020.
Camps told www.rochdaleafc.co.uk that the forward progression of the club has played a big part in his decision to commit his future to Rochdale: “I’m buzzing to have signed the contract, especially before the season starts and on the first day of pre-season.
“I feel now is the perfect time for me to sign it because the club is going in the right direction and it's good to be a part of it.
“It’s only matter time before we get in the play-offs or get promotion.”
Reflecting on last season, Camps, who netted nine goals during the campaign, admits it was great to clock up 51 appearances.
“After I got into my stride and started playing well, the Gaffer trusted in me every game and I had a good season playing 51 games.
“I was pretty gutted not to get into double figures in terms of goals, so the target is to try and do that this year. If I can do that and play as many games as I did last year, then that would be perfect for me.”
The squad returned for the start of pre-season training on Wednesday, with the players training on home soil before spending a week in Tenerife.
And while Camps knows how gruelling the sessions can be, he’s looking forward to feeling the benefits.
“Tenerife is hard and some of the lads don’t like it, me included, but it’s good because it gets us fit and ready for the season ahead.
“It’ll also be good to get the know the new players while we’re out there. They’re very good additions to the squad.”
