Chris Brown Impressed With Pre-Season Opener

13 July 2017

Youth Team Manager Chris Brown was impressed with his side after their 3-1 win over Rotherham United.

Goals from Neil Kuemo, Florian Yonsian and Elliot Murray sealed the win, in the Youth Team’s first pre-season fixture.

It was a great start to the pre-season fixture schedule, and is testament to the work that has been done so far in pre-season training.

“[I was] really impressed,” said Brown. “One – with how the lads played. And two – the fitness levels. All the way up to 90 minutes, they looked really fresh – lots of running and pressing, getting the ball back, and when we’ve had the ball we’ve actually done really well with it, especially in the last stages of the game where we’ve scored two really good goals. So overall really, really impressed.”

Dale fell behind just before the half hour mark, but showed great character to get themselves back on level terms shortly after.

“That’s what I was really impressed with – the resilience and the character. They didn’t down tools – they carried on going and to try and play. To be fair it was a bit of a sloppy game first 20 minutes, everyone was trying to get into the groove of playing football again. It’s another bonus for us that they’ve not downed tools and not stopped working hard, and they’ve carried on and got a good victory out of it.”

Next up for the Youth Team is a fixture against Preston North End on Saturday at Hopwood Hall. For the full fixture schedule click HERE.
