Dale have been drawn in Northern Group C of the 2017/18 Checkatrade Trophy, along with Blackburn Rovers and Bury.
The Group of four will be completed next Wednesday 12th July, when the Under-21 Category One clubs will be drawn.
One of Everton, Leicester City, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Stoke City, Sunderland or West Bromwich Albion will complete Group C.
The fixture dates will also be confirmed on Wednesday 12th July.
