Keith Hill's Post-Match Reaction - Walsall

23 December 2017

Manager Keith Hill's Walsall post-match reaction...

Dale were denied victory by a late Saddlers equaliser in a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first-half, Calvin Andrew broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, however, as Rochdale looked to be heading for all three points, Maz Kouhyar’s strike claimed a point for the visitors in the 90th minute.

“I believe that the opposition deserved something from the game,” said Hill.

“You could say we would have pinched it if we have won 1-0, but we didn’t and that’s the way it’s going at the minute, so you’ve got to battle through. I thought there was a better intensity to the second half and it’s just a question of cracking on.

“The players are going through it but they’re giving everything that they’ve got. Sometimes it manifests in the wrong way but the players took on board the importance of the game without me mentioning it.

“There was no significant emphasis on it from my point of view. I just want them to play free from stress but the first half performance looked as though it was full of stress. The worst thing you can demand from players is performances because the stress levels go up and I haven’t been doing any demanding this week.

“We should have scored a second but that’s just the way it’s folding at the minute. There’s a good group of players in there doing everything they can to win the game but psychologically now the players are finding it hard and you can see that in the performance. They’ve got to find a way of performing and it might mean us getting beat 7-0.”
