The Youth Team kick-off their 2017/18 campaign with a trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Chris Brown is pleased with how pre-season has gone, and says his players are raring to go ahead of the opening day.
“It’s been a productive pre-season. The lads have worked hard,” said Brown. “We’ve had a steady process from the first couple of days, up to now. There’s been steady progress in what we’ve been trying to teach the lads. We’ve been trying to get them in good habits, and wanting performance levels and standards to be right.
“It’s been productive, but it’s also been quite long as well, which means the lads are really looking forward to the season. It’s been challenging for some of them, but they are raring to go.”
Whilst Brown is happy with how pre-season has gone, all the focus is now on the competitive football, starting with the trip to Accrington.
“Everything starts tomorrow. Overall, I would say it has been productive, but we’re always trying to get better and more consistent performances.
“We know from the past how Accrington play and we’re in for a good test. I’m really looking forward to how the lads move on to the next step of what we’ve been learning. Who knows what will happen tomorrow – we’re just focusing and concentrating on us.”
