Manager Keith Hill reflects on Dale’s 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United at the Crown Oil Arena…

“I was happy with the pressing and the energy in the first half but not the end product.

“In the second half, we looked more dangerous with the end product. I made a tactical substitution but we looked less effective on the press.

“We’ve got to get the balance right and we will do. We’re a good side and we played against a good opposition today.

“There were a lot of very good things that I really enjoyed about what we did today but there’s one or two things that needing brushing up on, like most managers will suggest, and I’m in the same position as them.

“If I look at the squad of players that we’ve got, we’re filling in at the minute [due to injuries]. Harrison McGahey and Joe Bunney are big components of what we’re trying to do.

“We just got to sharpen things up, but it will come. We’ve got good players, players who will catch up with the speed. We’ve had three games in a week, and towards the end of today’s game I thought we sat a little bit deep and encouraged Scunthorpe, but we did have opportunities to win the game.

“I’m relatively pleased - we picked up our first point today and we had a clean sheet during the week [against Mansfield], although we should be scoring more goals with the players that we’ve got out on the pitch.”
