Matty Lund, who scored the only goal of the game in Saturday’s win over Oldham Athletic, has told Dale PlayerHD that he was pleased to get his name on the scoresheet.
His sweeping left foot finish was the midfielder’s third of the campaign and on this occasion he found the net in front of watching Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill.
“I wasn’t aware he was here but it’s good to hear that he was here today. Hopefully he has taken note that I can score goals,” laughed Lund.
“But it’s brilliant to score and brilliant to win. I really enjoyed the game.
“It’s good to get the three points and keep a clean sheet as well.
"We’ve beaten Bury and Oldham here in the local derbies so I couldn’t be any happier about that.”
Dale are in Emirates FA Cup first round action this Sunday, with the side making the trip to Kent to face Maidstone United. Lund says Dale will not take anything for granted.
“We need to go there with the same mentality as we did today. We want to win and we’ll go there wanting to get into the next round. That’s massive for the club and we need to do that.
“Maidstone will be right up for the game so we need to make sure that we turn up."
