I'm Reasonably Happy With The Performance Of The Players - Keith Hill

27 November 2016

Manager Keith Hill reflects on Dale’s defeat to Gillingham…

Frank Nouble opened the scoring just after half-time, and as Dale went in search of the equaliser the home side finished off the game.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Mark Byrne scored two late goals to seal the win for the home side.

Hill commented: “You’re living a bit dangerously with the way we were playing when we were 1-0 down. The game was in the balance and I thought we were the better team in the first half.

“Their first goal was an own goal because it deflected in off Steven Davies, but we tried to win the game and we tried to get something out of it.

“Going into the last half hour of the game we were really assertive and we were dominating possession. But when you do that, we leave ourselves a little bit susceptible to the counter-attack and that’s what happened in the end.

“The second goal deflated us. It’s a 3-0 scoreline because that’s what they’ve beaten us by, but it’s not a 3-0 performance we’ve shown.”

He continued: “I feel as though we should have made better use of and taken advantage of the first half. We should have stepped it up a little bit more and I think we would have been better than a nil-nil at half time.

“I was pleased going into the second half, then when the second goal goes in it it’s an uphill task. I don’t have much luck here with respect to previous results – it might be one of those grounds, but I was
reasonably happy with the performance of the players.”
