FA Cup Flashback: First Round Wins

3 November 2016

Ahead of Sunday's FA Cup tie against Maidstone United, we take a look back at Dale's first round wins over the last few years...

Saturday 7th November 2015: Rochdale 3-1 Swindon Town

A Nathaniel Mendez-Laing hat-trick saw Rochdale progress to the second round of competition last season.

Mendez-Laing opened the scoring in the first half with a header, while his second came just 42 seconds into the second period when he crashed home a half volley. He secured the match ball with a penalty. Swindon scored a consolation from the spot just a minute later.

Tuesday 18th November 2014: Rochdale 2-1 Northampton Town (First Round Replay)

After drawing 0-0 with Northampton Town at Sixfields, Dale hosted the Cobblers in a replay at the Crown Oil Arena. Rochdale left it late and had to come from behind to claim victory and book their place in the second round.

The visitors opened the scoring on four minutes through Ivan Toney and they looked to be headed for the second round of the competition until Reuben Noble-Lazarus netted on his home debut in the 85th minute. Deep in stoppage time, Olly Lancashire powered a diving header beyond Archer to earn Dale a place in the next round.

Torquay United 0-2 Rochdale: November 9th 2013

A dominant Rochdale booked their place in the draw for the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Torquay United at Plainmoor back in 2013.

Late goals from Scott Hogan (86 minutes) and Peter Vincenti (89 minutes) ensured victory for Dale in the first ever cup meeting between the two sides.
