The country isn’t the only thing enjoying an early taste of Summer

The country isn’t the only thing enjoying an early taste of Summer, the Spotland surface is coming on leaps and bounds with the first green shoots emerging from the re-laid pitch.

Man's intervention ended last week with the scraping, drain-laying and re-surfacing completed under floodlights, now its natures turn under the sunlight to do its thing.

The groundstaff are keeping a round-the-clock watch, calling in later in the evening and early in the morning to give nature a helping hand with water.

"We have to water the pitch as soon as the sun goes down," said head groundsman Rob Bennett.  "It simply cannot be done under the intense sun we have had.  We are pleased with the progress so far and the good weather is certainly helping."
