Rochdale’s preparations for the 2016-17 campaign continue this Saturday with the visit of Wigan Athletic to Spotland.
The Latics were crowned Champions of League 1 last season, gaining promotion back to the Championship after spending one season in the third tier.
Hill is looking forward to the game.
“It’ll be an excellent test,” he told Dale PlayerHD.
“They’re newly promoted so they’ll have an understanding of League 1 opposition.
“I thought they were tremendous in establishing themselves last season - there was no hangover from relegation. They found it difficult in the early stages to fathom out and get used to the exposures of League 1, but once they did, they attacked the league superbly. They were worthy champions, so congratulations.
“For me, they’re a really good opposition to play against because they were without doubt the best team in League 1 last season by a country mile.”
