Manager Keith Hill on the return of Reuben Noble-Lazarus, who signed a one-year-deal on Thursday...
“It was a difficult decision to release Reuben. I did it with great intentions, to be honest," said Hill.
“You have to send people and players out into the real world and give them a taste of reality.
“Reuben is very privileged - from the age of 15 years of age he was a Championship player.
“It was a difficult summer for Reuben with the realisation that there wasn’t another club making him one of their targets. I think releasing Reuben has given him a dose of real reality.
“I would have been really happy for him to get fixed up with another club but he didn’t. And when we’re heading towards the end of the first three weeks of pre-season, I just thought I would see how the land lay and see what he wanted to do.
“Trust me, with respect to his wages, he has made big sacrifices.
“I hope it’s the opportunity that will stimulate Reuben into making the most of his ability, because he has got ridiculous ability. You ask any player who is in our squad. If I was to say to any of those players that I’m bringing Reuben back, their faces would light up with the prospect of him producing what a lot of people haven’t seen.
“He has to transfer the ability that we see on the training pitch onto the matchday pitch on a regular basis.”
