Joe Thompson Signs Contract Extension At Rochdale

2 December 2016

Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce that Joe Thompson has signed an extension to his contract.

The 27-year-old’s current deal was due to expire in January, but he has put pen to paper on an 18-month extension, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2018.

Thompson, who started his career at Dale after coming through the youth ranks, re-joined the club in August after a spell away.

After making over 150 appearances for Rochdale, the long-serving midfielder left the club to join Tranmere Rovers for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2012. During his time at Prenton Park, Thompson returned to the Crown Oil Arena on a month-long loan. He then went on to sign for Bury and Carlisle United before returning to Rochdale.

Thompson has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Keith Hill’s side this season.

Speaking to Dale PlayerHD, Thompson commented: “I’m over the moon. I’m delighted to have signed my contract extension and I’m looking forward to the future.

“I’m really enjoying being back at the club. I’m getting a lot of game time and the season is going well for us as a team. We’re sat in fifth in League One and we’re still in the FA Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy.”
