Manager Keith Hill reflects on his side’s 3-2 win over Northampton Town…
Dale twice came from behind to beat the Cobblers at Sixfields, thanks to a Matty Lund hat-trick.
“I thought we were playing some great stuff but we set ourselves traps,” Hill told Dale PlayerHD.
“When we got the ball into the midfield third we should have been quicker into the final third with the pass, but one or two delayed decisions in possession allowed them counter-attack opportunities, and that’s one of the things I was really disappointed with. That and set-plays.
“I think the first goal is a bit of a gift but they’re a brilliant side at set-plays and we were really concerned. Eight out of the last ten goals that they’ve scored have been from set-plays. That was a real threat and a real danger, but other than that, I was relatively composed and I think the players were.
“We created opportunities and I was really pleased with the way that we performed. I’m pleased with the result, I’m pleased with the performance and I’m pleased with the endeavour. We stuck to our task at the end when they were throwing everything at us, so I’m very pleased.”
Lund scored his first senior hat-trick to claim the points for Dale and Hill is pleased for the midfielder.
“He has done well and he is responding well to a little bit of criticism from myself after the Gillingham game - he has responded in the right manner.
“I think he’s an excellent player but there are one or two aspects of the game that I want him to improve on, and he’s certainly doing that at this moment in time.”
And Hill was also full of praise for fellow midfielder Callum Camps.
“I thought Callum Camps was outstanding. As captain, he showed a maturity playing against Northampton. For him to control the game as he did with the type of physical presence that they have, wow!”
