I’m Happy To Score One Goal, Never Mind Three - Matty Lund

19 December 2016

Matty Lund, who scored the perfect hat-trick as Rochdale beat Northampton, was delighted with his goals and the three points.

He told Dale PlayerHD: “Getting three points is obviously the most important thing but to score three goals was brilliant for me. It was my first hat-trick and it couldn’t have gone any better.

“I’m happy to score one goal, never mind three! It’s good be scoring and that’s what I want to do from midfield - I want to get in there and score some goals.”

Dale showed great character to twice to come from behind at Sixfields and Lund says securing a win was important to the team.

“There’s a great spirit. The lads were dying to win today because our away form has been a bit iffy at times this year. I think the performance was very good, I think we were the better team and I think we deserved the points.”

Rochdale are home to Chesterfield (Boxing Day) and Shrewsbury Town (December 30th) over the Christmas period and Lund is looking forward to the two fixtures.

“Our home form has been good and if we can keep winning at home and pick points up away from home, then you never know what might happen.

“This Christmas period is going to be key and hopefully we can pick up some more points like we have done today.”
