Manager Keith Hill on the return of Joe Thompson…
“Joe knows us and I know Joe," Hill told Dale PlayerHD.
“He has been in training with us and I think he’s probably in the best physical condition he has been in for a long, long time, which was really impressive.
“He knows exactly what I want from him and he’s coming in to support the squad and to support the injuries to key players that we’ve got at this moment in time.
“We’re still having problems with Matty Lund, Peter Vincenti, and Reuben Noble-Lazarus, and there doesn’t seem to be a short term solution to those injuries. Ollie Rathbone is also injured.”
He continued: “For me, it’s better the devil you know. And I’m not saying that Joe is the devil. Joe has been impressive in training, and like I said, he knows what I want and need from him to support the team and the squad, and he will get game time. There’s no question about that.
“It’s a positive signing and I’m really pleased that he has come in. Joe feels like he’s in good shape compared to the shape that he was in prior to him getting cancer, and post-cancer, I think it has taken him a long time to get up to speed to feel mentally and physically confident, and I think that’s where he is at this moment in time.
“He has certainly impressed me, the staff and the rest of the players.”
