Exiled Fan Taking The Long Road To Spotland For Charity

15 April 2016

Exiled fan coming to his first game at Spotland for almost 50 years...

Exiled supporter David Smith will be at Saturday’s game against Blackpool, seeing the Dale play at Spotland for the first time in almost 50 years.

53-year-old David, who now lives near High Wycombe, was last at Spotland when he was just 5-years-old. After moving away from the town, he supports Dale from afar but takes in games when Rochdale are playing at the likes of Gillingham, Crawley Town, Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers.

Once a year, David looks to raise money for charity, and this year he has chosen to attend Dale’s League 1 fixture v Blackpool.

What’s so special? He’s travelling from High Wycombe to Rochdale, travelling via local buses only.

He set off on his epic bus journey on Thursday, starting at High Wycombe, before going on to Aylesbury, Oxford, Rugby, and so on up the country. It’s anticipated that he’ll take around 20 buses to get to Spotland.

He’s making the journey in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and has raised around £1,000 so far!
