Dale’s under 18 side secured their first win of the season on Saturday as they recorded a 2-0 win over Bury in the first round of the Youth Alliance Cup.
Both goals came in the second half, with Jack Stewart and Japhet Mata getting on the score-sheet.
Stewart opened the scoring after Dale hit the Shakers on the counter-attack. After a swift move forward, Harry Pratt’s initial cross-come-shot was blocked by the defender on the line, but fell kindly for Stewart, who hit home from six-yards.
Dale’s second came from a Bury free-kick. After being cleared away as far as the half-way line, Callum Schorah pressured the Shakers player, forcing him into a mistake and freeing up Mata, who charged at goal before finishing on the angle into the corner of the net.
